Entrepreneurship

Three ventures,told straight.

Two ended. One I am building now. Each deserves its context, not a single tidy lesson.

Now · Building

Coexa

Coexa is a conversational AI marketing platform for small businesses. It is being built so an owner can investigate a business question, talk through the choices, and hand marketing work to agents that follow their rules and wait for their approval.

The reason is access. I care deeply that people should adopt something that is helpful for them. Useful AI should not be out of reach for a small business, and they should be able to take it on with confidence and control.

EnergX

EnergX was a non-intrusive load-monitoring product. It took a building's electricity-consumption data and separated it out, so you could see in detail what was using the power.

I founded it and led it. We reached a working prototype in 2022. Team and partnership difficulties were the main reason it did not continue.

2019 to 2021 · Ended

Offset Interactive

Offset was my first business. It was a packaging company, not a startup, and I regularly worked eighteen-hour days on it. In 2020 I went through Founder Institute with it.

The business itself was working. Customers paid too late, and the cash-flow problem that created is what stopped me from continuing.

These are the short versions. The full stories, contradictions included, are still being written, and each will get a page of its own.

from both endings

What stayed with me

  • I value my time far more than I did.
  • Profit and cash flow are different things, and a business needs both.
  • Money is a by-product of the value you provide.
“You can always look at a failure as time wasted, or time spent learning.”

so, which is it?
